What Can Gartner Do for Me?

A view from the Gartner homepage.

OIT currently has a contract with Gartner, Inc., the world's leading information technology research and advisory company. Allison Weil, Emory's Gartner account representative, recently demoed her company's capabilities to the Integration team.

According to Gartner, their services "aid in decision-making, provide unbiased opinion, confidence, validation, sector and product analysis, and sometimes, just confirmation that you aren't going crazy and you aren't alone. All faculty, staff and currently enrolled students have access to Gartner – it's what you need to know, what you need to do, and who you should be paying attention to. It's independent, insightful and instantly applicable to your business challenges."

A few highlights as food for thought from recent reports:

Based on a recent survey, Gartner found higher education institutions are focused on five top technologies for 2012 – 1) CRM, 2) Content Management, 3) Analytics / Business Intelligence, 4) Enterprise Resource Applications, and 5) Management Technologies

Cloud computing in higher education is strong, and Gartner expects it to continue to strengthen. Institutions must improve vendor management skills and build a flexible infrastructure to truly leverage the Cloud

Digital content is a hot topic and Gartner predicts consumers will store a third of their digital content in the cloud by 2016

"Gartner has been very helpful. I pulled best practices resources recently and it's good to know I have a partner I can consult." Dana Haggas
